Torcetti are typical Piedmontese cuisine sweets especially produced in the area of
Biella.

 

The origins of the torcetti date back to 1700.They are probably born by chance, as many
recipes of Piedmontese cuisine, in the old countryside ovens. While waiting for the oven is hot for baking bread people passed torcetti in sugar or honey and then lying on the mouth of the oven. They were probably bigger as we know them today, and made of the same bread pastry.

 

Over the years the recipe for torcetti changed so much, have become smaller and the butter was added to the mixture to make them more fragrant and tasty.

 

Today torcetti biscuits are classified as " traditional product of the Piedmont Region"
